Midnight at the Oasis
Wall Lamp
This lamp was inspired by a popular song
by Maria Muldaur with the same title
Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Shadows painting our faces
Traces of romance in our heads
Heaven's holding a half moon
Shining just for us
Let's slip off to
A sand dune, real soon
And kick up a little dust
Come on, cactus is our friend
He'll point out the way
Come on, 'til the evening ends
'Til the evening ends
I know your daddy's a sultan
A nomad known to all . . .
Uh oh!! Daddy is outside the tent looking out across the desert and he doesn't look happy! No camels to be seen though - they've probably already been sent off to bed! Stylized ripples and water flows frequently appear in my work. I don't know why this happens - they just keep showing up. The abstract palm trees are original designs. All parts of this unique lamp were handmade from steel. The steel has been powder coated with a blue-black finish. There are microscopic particles of violet embedded in the finish that flash if they catch the light just right. The lampshade's fabrics are batiks. Since there's only one lamp like this in the entire world and I don't intend to make another like it - it's a bargain!
